It’s Biodiversity Week, which is all about raising awareness on the issues affecting our world. As primary school teachers, it’s our responsibility to teach children about the importance of preserving our biodiversity. We can do this with fun and engaging activities, so here are five ideas to get your pupils participating in Biodiversity Week:

1. Plant a mini garden. Get your class to design and create their own mini garden with plants native to your local area. This is a great way for them to learn about the importance of native plants and the benefits they bring to local wildlife.

2. Go on a scavenger hunt. Take your pupils outside and let them explore the school grounds to find and identify different plants and animals. This is an excellent way to get them engaged with the natural world around them.

3. Hold a biodiversity quiz. Quizzes are a great way to get your pupils to learn about the different issues affecting our world. Ask them questions about the different plants and animals they have seen during their scavenger hunt!
