Happy Poetry Day Ireland! 🎉
It’s a day to celebrate poetry and maybe even write your own poem. As primary school teachers, we have the opportunity to help our students explore the wonderful world of poetry. Here are 4 teaching ideas/activities to help you get started.
1. Create a Poem: Get your students to create their own poem. Encourage them to draw inspiration from the world around them, whether it’s nature or their everyday experiences.
2. Poetry Performance: Invite your students to perform their poem in front of the class. This is a great way to encourage creative expression and help them become more confident public speakers.
3. Poem Writing Competition: Why not have a poem writing competition in your school? You can even get your students to submit their work to @poetryireland for a chance to win a prize.
4. Poetry Walk: Take your students on a poetry walk around your local area and get them to write a poem about what they see.
