June is hard in normal times so we’ve come up with a day-by-day guide to help you out. This has been adapted from Anseo.net’s Project Project.
June 2nd-5th:Â Virtual School Tour 🚗
Instead of going on a school tour this year, every day, ask the children and their families to find a place within the 5km limit that might be interesting to visit. Each day, they have to show you something under a theme:Â
- Tuesday: something fun
- Wednesday: something historical
- Thursday: something colourful
- Friday: something beginning with the first letter in your name (Sorry all the Zaks who live more than 5km from the zoo!) 🐒
If they’re feeling very techy, they can even plot the places on a Google Map and do a virtual tour. Other ideas might be to make a short video advertisement for the 4 places so they can present their area to your class. They could even make a tour guide or a brochure!Â
June 8th to 13th: CruinniĂş na nĂ“g 🎭
For those of you outside of Ireland, this might mean nothing to you. If you’re not in the know, Ireland is the first, and only, country in the world to have a national day of free creativity for children and young people under 18. It’s called CruinniĂş na nĂ“g. It’s all online this year and there are tonnes and tonnes of ways to get involved during the week before the big day on the 13th June. Your best bet is to go on the website and find 5 different activities that would suit your class – whether that’s investigating whether the sky is blue or having a CĂ©ilĂ in your kitchen – and that’s your week. Visit https://cruinniu.creativeireland.gov.ie/ for more information.
June: 15th to 19th: Virtual Sports’ Week 🤾🏽♀️
Sports’ Day is usually only one day so let’s make this year a Sports’ Week. Every day have a new challenge for your class! Here are some ideas:
- Can you make an obstacle course in your garden?
- Try out a Keepie Uppie Challenge! How long can keep your ball from touching the ground?
- Get your family out and about and try and make as many steps as you can in the day! Can you all do 10,000 steps in your household?
- Try out a circuit challenge – 8 exercises for 30 seconds each → Jumping Jacks, Run on the Spot, Push Ups, Squats, Boxing the Air, Hop on one Foot, Lunges, Plank!
- On Friday evening, wrap up the week with a Kitchen Disco! Turn the lights off, get the music on and bop around the kitchen together to your favourite tracks.
June 22nd to 26th: End of Year Celebration 🎉
What a strange year it’s been! End it as happy as you can with some ideas to make it special together.
- On Monday – get out the baking bowl and make a cake or have a pizza party!
- On Tuesday – Send your teacher a video or photo of something happy you did during the lockdown that made you proud or happy. (Schools might consider making an eBook)
- On Wednesday – send your teacher a poem called Looking Back, Looking Forward to remember some things that happened since March and your hopes for September.
- On Thursday – why not give 6th Class a big send off with a Virtual Graduation? Or maybe send a message to 6th class to wish them well in secondary school? Or why not welcome the new Junior Infants?
- Finally on Friday – stick on your video conferencing tool and have an end of year party!
