Even though we live in Ireland, the coronation of King Charles was all over Irish TV on the weekend. Like many other countries, many of us have a fascination with the British royal family. For Britain, this event isĀ  historical and you might want to cover some of the pageantry in your own classroom.

Here are four fun teaching ideas to get you started:

1. Have students create a timeline of the coronation. They can use images, newspapers and other sources to document the preparations, rehearsals and the big day itself.

2. Set the scene with some creative writing. Ask students to imagine they are attending the coronation and write a story about what they see, hear and feel.

3. Get the pupils to create a mural of the coronation. Ask them to paint or draw a scene from the day, or a picture that captures the day’s atmosphere.

4. Take a virtual field trip with a video tour of the coronation venues. Show the pupils the path the royal procession took, and allow them to explore the different sights.
