Percussion is one of the easiest instruments to do in a classroom. Even if there are no actual instruments, all you need is something to bang on and something to bang with! Here are some ideas for introducing drumming into the classroom.

1. Learning to Play Drums: Introduce pupils to the basics of drumming and create a class rhythm by learning how to play a variety of percussion instruments. If there are no percussion instruments, strike different parts of the body or use different surfaces.

2. Music and Movement: Combine music and movement by teaching a range of basic drum beats and incorporating them into a dance routine.

3. Drum Making: Create drums from everyday items such as buckets, cardboard boxes, and tins.

4. Drum Circle: Form a circle with the pupils and use the drums to send musical messages to each other.

5. Music Composition: Encourage pupils to compose their own musical pieces using the drum beats they have learned. They can then perform their compositions for the rest of the class.
