According to the World Health Organisation, Epilepsy affects around 50 million people worldwide. The estimated proportion of the general population with active epilepsy (i.e. continuing seizures or with the need for treatment) at a given time is between 4 and 10 per 1000 people. Here are some ideas for your classroom:

1. Understanding Epilepsy: Have a class discussion about what epilepsy is and how it affects people. Share stories from people with epilepsy, and explain what Purple Day is and why it is important.

2. Purple Day Fun: Organise a “Purple Day” dress up day. Have the pupils dress up in purple and have a fun day of activities to celebrate Purple Day and raise awareness about epilepsy.

3. Brainstorming Solutions: Brainstorm different ways to help those with epilepsy. Have the pupils come up with creative solutions to help people with epilepsy live happier and healthier lives.

4. Writing a Story: Have the pupils write a story about a character with epilepsy. Ask them to think about how the character is affected by their condition and how other characters in the story respond to it. Encourage them to use purple as a symbol of hope and strength.
